Full disclosure: I’ve never been to Philadelphia. But I do love a good cheesesteak, and it turns out the SF Financial District has one of the best in town…
Theo’s Cheesesteak Shop serves ’em Philly-style: thin, crispy sheaves of beef, grilled onion and genuine Cheez Whiz (hey, who am I to judge?) on an Amoroso role flown in from the City of Brotherly Love.
Located at the Rincon Center, Theo’s opens onto a sunny courtyard for a relaxing break from the office. They also serve distinctly non-Philly stuff like a very popular “veggie-steak“, a chicken steak and garlic fries.
I’ve read that Theo’s is the real deal, and that it’s not. I’ll leave it to the expats to debate its authenticity, but believe me: after your first cheesesteak here, you’ll be back.
